Dogs and Halloween - A love hate relationship

hello dear friends. My oh my. What a day I had. I'm truly exhausted. Today Miri and Tom decided to take me to a halloween dog parade. Now before I go on to explain this horrid event, I will say that I know they had the best intentions. They wanted me to have a fun time being around other dogs, have treats and be "silly." Let me clue you in on something - Dogs don't get the whole silly thing. Nor do they get the whole costume thing.

Anyway, Ill press on. They put me in the car which is always very stressful for me anyway. I know, most dogs love the car. Well I think I love it so much that I get overly excited and stress myself out.

Then we get to this town called Bethesda where there are all sorts of high end shops and restaurants and here stands this store called the Pampered Pooch! Oy vey as Miri would say. They were checking all sorts of little dogs in at this table outside (which had a BIG bowl of dog treats that none of them could reach but ME!). The dogs were in all these little silly costumes such as pirate, french maid, pig, leopard. You get the idea. And what the humans could not hear was the rumble amoung us canines. All of us were mumbling to each other how stupid and silly we felt in these outfits and even more embarrassing were the humans we were with and how INTO this they were!

One good thing about today was that I got to meet Yenta! She is so sweet. Honestly, she kind of makes me look bad because she is so well behaved. She looked really cute in her bee costume too. And it was a REAL costume as opposed to my handmade one!

OK so here are a few photos of my costume. I was dressed as a ladybug. They made this really lame costume out of a red t-shirt and glued on black dots. Apparently there arent a lot of big dog costumes available so they had to do the homemade one. They didnt even take time to sew it for me! LAME. And then when we got there the dots started falling off! Even though it was embarrassing to be in a costume, it would have been way more embarrassing to just be in a red shirt while all the other dogs were well costumed. Thankfully Jane saved the day and let me borrow her ladybug wings.

Here I am with Miri without the wings. Then with Tom, the wings are added. I think it looks much better. I mean, if I must wear a costume, I better look good!

The contest ended on a good note. I scored about 4 big treats. Then we went to lunch with Jane, Brian and Yenta and I got a few bites of Miri and Tom's bagels.

Last was the best. They took me to Adams Morgan Dog Park!

I guess it wasn't THAT bad but it was definitely embarrassing. And the worst part is that we have no control over the situation. So we make the best of it!

Blog Inactivity

A few of my readers have complained about my inactivity on the blog. I have to say that my life has been kind of boring lately. Mostly due to my new collar actually. The new collar is a bit spike-y -- it doesnt hurt me but its a little bit of a reminder that I cant pull as hard and it has resulted (MUCH TO MY DISMAY) in an inability on my part to snack on dead animals of any sort. Any time there is one around us, the collar has given Miri and Tom more control to get me away from these tasty delights. The positive outcome for me has been a much healthier intestinal tract which is less embarrassing too.

I think the sad result of this new collar though is that I am much less exciting on my blog.
I am accepting reader comments on this subject.

One exciting thing happened today! I was off leash at the dog park in Dupont (which is not fenced in) and I saw a really fun poodle across the street. I decided I wanted to go and say hi to her so I just darted across really quickly. I knew I wouldnt get hit by any of those crazy cars because im so fast on my feet but boy did Miri get upset! She was beside herself. The dad that was with the poodle held my collar while Miri ran across all huffy. I laughed inside when I saw her. I know she is looking out for me but still.
